Dr. Rumyana Yanakieva

Dr. Rumyana Yanakieva, Director, started playing piano when she was six years old. She joined the National Academy of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria and later performed several times as a soloist with the National Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra. She then moved to the USA and completed a M.M. in Piano Performance with a full assistant-ship from the University of South Florida, in Tampa, FL. While studying at The University of South Florida, Rumyana was a collaborative pianist for the trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, violin and viola studios, and performed at the National Trumpet Competition and as a piano soloist at Nativity Church.

Dr. Yanakieva then completed the D.M.A. in Piano Performance from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. Rumyana was a scholarship winning pianist during her time at Michigan State University, and was a collaborative pianist in over 50 graduate and undergraduate recitals. In 2013, Dr. Yanakieva was selected to participate as a collaborative pianist at the International Trumpet Guild Seminar, in Grand Rapids, MI.

Currently, Dr. Yanakieva is a founding member and teacher at Cupertino Music Academy. She is the pianist and organist at Union Church of Cupertino. She maintains an active teaching studio, and her students have given numerous recitals and and community performances. Rumyana can be heard on youtube at 'Rumyana Piano'. Each year, her studio ranks highly in the Trinity Piano Examinations. Dr. Yanakieva is always in demand as a performer for events featuring piano or other special music. She enjoys spending time outdoors, practicing yoga, and traveling.
